Dar Es Salaam January 22nd 2013 - Stanbic Bank Tanzania, one of the leading international banks in Tanzania has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNICEF Tanzania to inject USD 150,000 equivalent to Tshs. 250 million for three years to support the government School WASH programme, at a ceremony officiated by the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Seif Rashid.
Speaking to the press during a brief signing event at the Stanbic Head Office in Dar es Salaam the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stanbic Hatibu Senkoro said; “we are delighted to enter into this partnership with UNICEF and the government that will shape future behaviours of our children and significantly help to reduce the occurrence of hygiene-related diseases.”

Stanbic Bank’s contribution will help to support the scaling up of affordable, good quality, girl and child friendly, sustainable school water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in three schools in Temeke district, in Dar es Salaam. An average of eight hundred primary school children per school will benefit from the programme.
Specifically Stanbic Bank’s contribution will be channelled through the national programme to support a full School WASH package in three schools selected by the government and UNICEF.
The UNICEF Country Representative in Tanzania Dr. Jama Gulaid commended Stanbic’s support.
“The funding aside, Stanbic Tanzania is setting an excellent example for the private sector in Tanzania by contributing to social development. By investing in children, Stanbic is investing in the next generation of leaders, investors, traders, and farmers” he said.
The MoU was signed by the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Tanzania Bashir Awale and UNICEF Country Representative Dr. Jama Gulaid and witnessed by the Bank’s Board of Directors and representatives from UNICEF Tanzania.
