It is possible you have heard or read about Zuriels annual DUSUSU Awards, which she presents to an African First Lady, whose work in the area of Girls Education in their countries exemplifies Zuriels belief in the need for not just political office holders, but non office holders to fight for, on the African continent.

She began this initiative in 2014, after her maiden First Lady's colloquy she convened in Lagos in April 2014. That year, the DUSUSU First Lady Award went to Salma Kikwete of Tanzania, in 2015 to Margaret Kenyatta of Kenya (Top), and in 2016 to Monica Geingos of Namibia (below right).
What makes this award very personal to the First Ladies who receive it is that there is nothing 'political. or 'economically driven' about it, rather, it is being presented by a Girl, who is not just passionate about Girls Education and globally recognized for it, but she herself recognizes the singular efforts of those on the African continent - First Ladies, who are quietly but measurably making a difference in this fight. So as it were, more than any other Award these First Ladies receive, this one is very dear to them as well.

It is also unique, because they cannot campaign for it, and are not privy in any way to the selection criteria, otherwise, they could position themselves for it.

Announcement Next Week

Zuriels committee would be announcing the recipient for the Awards next week, and she would be making the travel to the recipients country to personally present the Award, as she has done in the past, in the State House, Presidential Palace, or Prime Ministers Residence - as applicable.
