KIA, JNIA win Africa Airport Marketing Awards 2013

KIA, JNIA win Africa Airport Marketing Awards 2013

TANZANIA’S two international airports, Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) and Julius Nyerere International Airports (JNIA) have scooped the top awards during the 8th Routes Africa event held in Kampala between 7th to 8th of July, 2013.

The event hosted by Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda and Entebbe International Airport brought together Over 300 aviation professionals from across the world.
During the event, KIA emerged winner for the under 4 million passengers per annum category while JNIA was highly recommended in under 4 million passengers per annum category.

Speaking shortly after award ceremony, the Tanzanian delegation head Bakari Murusuri from Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company (KADCO) said the awards won is a land mark to in the country’s aviation sector.
 “The awards are not only an inspiration to the two airports but Tanzania’s aviation sector as a whole. Our focus should now ensure that the two airports meet international standards,”.

He added that as the overall winner of the Africa Heat, KIA will automatically be shortlisted for world routes marketing awards taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA in October, 2013. The KADCO Business Development Manager Christine Mwakatobe said “This has been one of the most amazing evenings for us at Kilimanjaro International Airport to win this award. 

“We would like to thank all of the airlines that serve the airport for voting for us in this process and we are pledging our commitment that we will keep working hand-in-hand with all of our partners,” she added.

Other Tanzanian delegates present at the occasion included Scholastica Mukajanga from TAA, Efatha Lyimo from JNIA and Elisilia Kaaya from AICC, Mkunde Senyagwa from AICC and John Weatherill from  intervistas. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is set to host next year’s 2014 Routes Africa event betweenand will be hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.

Nigel Mayes, VP Commercial – Routes, UBM Live said of the announcement:  “We are thrilled at the decision to take Routes Africa to the stunning destination of Victoria Falls which is a World Heritage Site.  Hosting Routes Africa will deliver the route development community to Victoria Falls providing the opportunity to market this destination extensively whilst also showcasing the potential of the airport once it has undergone the major infrastructure changes which began earlier this year.”
