Ambassador Alfonso E. Lenhardt (left), recently met with Tanzania Police Force Superintendent Hamad Khamis Hamad (right), prior to his trip to the United States of America under the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP). Mr. Hamad's program is titled "Combating International Crime Issues," and will be held in Washington, D.C. and several American states from February 22 through March 16.
The program will include participation by senior African police officials from Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria. Mr. Hamad also serves as Assistant to the INTERPOL chief at the National Central Bureau in Dar es Salaam, as a member of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Secretariat, and as desk officer for Anti-Human Trafficking and Violence against Women and Children. He has been employed by the Tanzania Police Force in the Ministry of Home Affairs since 1998.
During their meeting, Ambassador Lenhardt lauded Mr. Hamad's leadership and presented him with a coin of excellence. He also underscored the United States' priority to partner with Tanzanians in strengthening law enforcement, combating human trafficking, promoting the rule of law, the professionalization of the Tanzania Police Force, as well as public information sharing and protection.
The International Visitors Leadership Program is sponsored by the American people through the U.S. Department of State, and is intended to facilitate personal and professional contacts between the people of the United States and Tanzania.
